Having graduated from the University of Liverpool Veterinary college in 1980, I joined the practice and have been working here ever since. I have been involved in all areas of the practice but now spend the majority of my time doing routine farm visits, herd health and fertility visits. My main interests are in bovine fertility, abdominal surgery in cattle, control of production diseases in farm animals, small animal medicine and equine work.
My family and I live on a farm close to Antrim. I own two Irish Draught mares from which I breed Irish Sport horses for Show jumping. My son Cahir who is also a vet in the practice and myself own the Larkhill herd of pedigree limousin cattle. I am a past president of the Northern Ireland Veterinary Association and the Association of Veterinary Surgeons Practicing in N. I. and the current director of Animal Health and Welfare Northern Ireland.
I qualified in 2012 from UCD after spending four years in a progressive busy mixed general practice in Co Down.
I joined Firmount in May 2016 hoping to pursue some of my interests which include dairy herd health and herd fertility and I am also very keen on companion animal internal medicine encompassing in-house diagnostic procedures and practical problem solving.
In my spare time, I enjoy helping out on the mixed family farm on the shores of Lough Neagh.
Originally from Aghalee, Co. Antrim I have been part of the Firmount Veterinary Clinic team since 1989.
Having studied in Dublin I worked in Lurgan for two years before joining the team at Firmount Veterinary Clinic. I thoroughly enjoy my working day in the busy clinic, in particular exchanging with pet owners as well as working with farm animals locally.
I mainly take care of our companion animal patients here at Firmount Veterinary Clinic, dogs, cats and other small animals and in all the years I have worked here no two days are alike.
Alongside my veterinary duties I am a cattle farmer and of course my three dogs, five cats and horse are a big part of my life.
I studied at Glasgow University and qualified in 2013. Originally from Portglenone, Co. Antrim have been with Firmount Veterinary Clinic since September 2013.
Within our team of veterinary surgeons I specialise on farm animals but also enjoy working with small animals here at the clinic.
My hobbies include Rugby and farming and my family run a dairy farm at home which I help out on at evenings and weekends
Within our team I specialise in companion animal veterinary and farm/production animals, where I am particularly interested in the areas of infectious diseases and reproduction.
I live not far outside Antrim town on a small farm with cattle, poultry and my pet Kune Kune pig, Petunia. Much of my free time is spent on the farm looking after my animals including a small herd of Limousin cattle and I enjoy socialising with fellow breeders at shows and sales.
